Snow. Globes.
They are one of our all time favorite decorations- and one that people of all ages seem to enjoy.
We saw this tutorial in Martha Stewart and just had to give it a whirl.

Our Supplies:

Water (It called for distilled, but we improvised with our Brita)
Empty jars (Tomato Sauce, Marantha Peanut Butter, & Grey Poupon)
Miniature figurines (Dollar Store, baby!)
Hot Glue Gun
White Glitter
Glycerin Drops (Found in the laxative aisle- funny story there!)
Sand Paper
Tea lights

As we got started, we quickly realized that figurines would not be tall enough
to show up entirely in the jars.  Our oh-so-brilliant Jillian suggested using tealights to bump them up.
We emptied two tea lights and hot glued the two metal bottoms together. Voila! A little silver platform.
We sanded the lids of the jars, and then hot glued the tea light platform to the lid.
We then hot glued the figurine (or tree) to the platform.
Then comes the fun part!  Fill up the jar as full as you can (doing this over the sink is very wise).  Add 3 drops of glycerin- we used 5 for the large jar- which will keep the glitter from settling too quickly.  Pour in some glitter.  We used a white, almost translucent, glitter, so we were a bit generous with the amount we used, and were incredibly pleased with how it turned out.
Place the jar on the table, insert the lid/platform/figurine, & tighten.

SHAKE!!

If only we could capture the globes in their snowstorms…
maybe one day we will get better at taking pictures. Sigh.

The sky is truly the limit with what you can fill your “globes” with, and we are definitely looking forward to experimenting with other ideas.  However, we have to admit- we squealed when we got our first shake.

What do you think?!
