Event planning is a one-of-a-kind career.
Clients come to us wanting to cherish a significant moment in their lives,
whether it be a celebration, a memorial, or a specific achievement.
We cannot help but feel spoiled by our profession- especially when it comes to celebrating life!

In June, we headed back up to the Hoosier state to design and coordinate a baby shower.
Since the mom & dad-to-be live in Florida, the hosts of the shower wanted to allow plenty of time for Melissa to catch up and fellowship with family she hadn’t seen in a while.  The idea behind the shower was to add a touch of sophistication & femininity to the “baby boy” shower.  We found an amazing paper line at a craft store and knew instantly we would base the shower around it.  The color palette read “chic” without being overtly girly or screaming “baby boy!”

We had a ball designing the invitation.  Typically we let our favorite stationers (like a Fine Press) handle this task, but with such a small group (and so many details) we dove right in. We used the paper we found, white cardstock, and teal yarn, which added a sense of playfulness to the invite.
Since the couple was from Florida, the dad-to-be wanted to spend time with the men- so we created an insert for him to be able to have some “manly bonding” time during the shower.  We also put in an insert for “sharing wisdom” and instructed the guests to fill out the cards and bring them to the shower.

The flowers we used were babies breath, carnations, Football mums, and Overtime roses.
We laughed at the ironic names- since Melissa is a football athletic trainer. We wrapped the vases in the same yarn we used for the invites.

We made two custom garlands for the shower, one that read “oh baby!” (inspired by the invite) and one “Jackson” (baby’s name).  It was a quick and charming way to personalize the shower. One of the aunts put together a “college fund” for Jackson, so cute! On the way into the shower, guests could contribute to the fund, drop off their “wisdom”, and fill out a nametag. We hand painted several canvases to match the invitations and put them around house. Sadly, we only took one semi-successful picture.

The shower was early: 9:00am! The breakfast menu featured the soon-to-be Nana’s famous breakfast casserole (lovingly prepared by the soon-to-be great aunts), sausage links, fruit salad, muffins, and the world’s best sugar cookies. No lie. Calories simply don’t count when cookies are that good. The beverages for the day were water, orange juice, and “Grandma’s punch”- another family favorite.

After plenty of food, guests filled out little sheets of paper with their best guess at the meaning of the baby’s name.  It was a great, quick activity- and was absolutely hilarious.  If baby Jackson is anything like his dad, “full of personality” is the perfect name. Once the actual answer was announced, the opening of gifts began. There were several sweet moments throughout the presents (like a gorgeous hand-knit blanket from Great-Grandma), as well as some humorous ones (pee-pee teepees? who knew!).

All in all, it was a shower full of love and sweet fellowship,
and we could not have been more pleased with the way it turned out!

Oh, and did I forget to mention I am the soon-to-be aunt? Yea, no big. =]
